“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one’s youth.”
Psalm 127:3-4

The day we learned we would be having a son was the same day we found out he would be taken from us. Our first child was being ripped away almost as soon as he was given.

Three months later, he was born without breath.

Job’s lament was our birth announcement: “The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away.”

Yet in the chaos of our confusion and pain, one thing is clear: our son was a precious gift from God. I share his story and our grief for the same reason other parents flood their posts with their own kids: children are a blessing.

Not even death can overpower this declaration.
